STONY BROOK, N.Y. – With the game tied at 1-1, graduate student Paul Mayer scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute as the No. 17 University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team defeated Stony Brook, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at LaValle Stadium in America East action. Senior Victor Menudier (Limoges, France) scored the first goal of the game.

The Wildcats improve to 3-0-1 (2-0-1 AE), while the Seawolves fall to 1-3-1 (1-1-1 AE).

The Wildcats took the first shot on goal in the 15th minute when sophomore Bilal Kamal (London, England) sent a free kick to Mayer who deflected the ball from eight yards out, but Edmond Kaiser made the save.

The Seawolves tied the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute (39:30) when a penalty kick by Kori Cupid was saved by graduate student goalkeeper Alejandro Robles (Monterey, Mexico), but Cupid was able to knock in the rebound.

Then just a little over a minute after the second half started, Mayer deflected the clear attempt by Kaiser as the ball went right to the back of the net.

With under a minute left in the second half, Cameron Bonfils sent a shot from 18 yards out but Robles made the save for the 2-1 final score.
