Silver Knights let their bats do talking in 13-5 win in Lynn

Bad day at the ballpark? Just wait for the next game. It’s bound to be better.

That’s been the Nashua Silver Knights’ philosophy all season, and it was certainly evident on Wednesday night.

They followed up a lackluster Tuesday loss Tuesday with a resounding Wednesday win, 13-5 over the North Shore Navigators, at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.

John Mead paced a 16-hit attack going 5 for 6 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Milford’s Brett Anderson went 2 for 2 with two RBIs while Mike Rounds and Nick Perkins each had three hits. Rounds drove in two and Nashua’s Perkins had three RBIs.

Mead and Rounds both blasted two-run homers in the six-run fourth. Two more runs came in on a key Navs error as Nashua, now 13-9, grabbed a 7-0 lead.

All that offense made a winner out of reliever Gabe Driscoll, while usual reliever Griffin Young was impressive in his first start. Young allowed six hits and a run in 4.1 innings of work, walking three and striking out four. Driscoll allowed a run on one hit in 1.2 frames.

But perhaps the key job was done by reliever Chris Chaney, who struck out former Knight Alex Brickman with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. North Shore had climbed to within 10-5 at that point.

Nashua returns home tonight to face Brockton, with Jack Dicenso (1-0, 6.75) set to take the Holman hill. The Rox )11-9) are one game behind the Knights in third place, so it’s a fairly key matchup. Remember, only the top two teams in the standings at the end of the 39-game season make the playoffs.

Silver Knights manager Kyle Jackson said he’ll evaluate the roster during next week’s Scout Camp Break (formerly the All-Star break) with all the injuries. “I think Schreffler (Troy Schreffler, Jr.) will be fine, because that’s just a (back) strain,” Jackson said.. “I’ll find out about (pitcher Jack) Kramer, I’ll find out about Eddie (catcher Jarvis, finger), those two.” Jackson said he can have Dylan Jones or Dom Keegan catch along with Jack Arend, so he’s OK there.

The other NESN games will be this Monday with Westfield visiting New Britain at 6:30 p.m., and Worcester at Brockton on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 1 p.m.

Nashua’s is on Aug. 15 at Holman vs. North Shore at 1 p.m.

“Partnering with NESN is an exciting opportunity,” FCBL Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “Our league is filled with a great deal of high-end talent this summer, and we are excited to showcase our brand of baseball, our teams and players to fans all over New England and beyond.”

Pitching, hitting and fielding workouts will combine with players running a 60-yard dash.
