N.H. Audubon’s Birdathon 2020 scheduled for today

By Staff | May 9, 2020

While the public is being asked to stay home, the same can’t be said of the birds that brighten both people’s lives and the spring skies.

May 9 is World Migratory Bird Day, and to celebrate the return of migrant birds to the Granite State, N.H. Audubon is once again conducting its Birdathon – this year with a local twist!

Birdathon 2020 is a celebration of local birding, whether it occurs in back yards, towns or within walking range.

Instead of teams competing against each other for high species totals and bragging rights, everyone is in this one together – the more people, the better, and perhaps set a bar to try to overcome in a future year.

The goal is simple: Participants should see how many species they can COLLECTIVELY find within New Hampshire on May 9.

Now, more than ever, the natural world is a source of comfort, healing and strength. As people join in celebrating Birdathon 2020, officials ask them to think back on a time when seeing a particular bird or just being outside made their life a little better.
