Jenna Lynch helped lead Bishop Guertin to its second girls hockey championship in three seasons, in a year in which parity finally reached the girls’ ice.

She was rewarded with an All-State honor, and was somewhat surprisingly the lone local on the New Hampshire Coaches Association’s All-State Girls team.

LOCALS SHINE IN HOCKEY SENIOR ALL-STAR GAMES

Guertin’s Ryan Kelley and John Mantone had goals in the Division I-II Senior All-Star Classic hosted by the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey in Exeter last weekend.

BG’s Logan Vogel and Tim Kiely had assists, all for Team White, which eventually fell 4-3 to Team Red on a game-winner by Exeter’s Cam Snee, his second of the game.

In the Division III game, Hollis Brookline-Derryfield’s Jesse Gertz had two goals and Jack Lager one while Pembroke Campbell’s Abram Martel and HBDS’ Isaac Winsor had assists. Team Red downed the locals’ Team White, 6-5.

HBDS goalie Cavan Quinn saw action for Team White.

COLLEGE BOUND

Friday was a big day at Nashua South as girls track standout Iyana Braswell signed a letter of intent to attend and compete in track for Division I Bryant University. She was surrounded by several friends, family and fellow South student athletes.

Braswell had a superb indoor season, part of the standout 4×200 relay team as well as the state champion in the 55 meter dash.

Meanwhile, Nashua High School North boys soccer standout Preston Thompson has announced he’s going to also compete at the Division I level at Stonehill College, Thompson was an outstanding player for the Titans, nearly leading them to the finals in 2021 despite playing on an injured ankle and was their on and off field leader this past fall as well, as the Titans had their best regular season in recent years before just falling short in the quarterfinals.

DIVISION III ALL-STATE HOOP LOCALS

Wrapping up the All-State honors, Campbell had senior Colton Martel on the NHBCO’s Division III boys basketball First Team, while Austin McHugh, a junior, made Second Team.

Campbell sophomore Jashawn Hawkins was named to the All-Defensive Team, giving the Cougars three players on the entire squad.

The area did not have any players on the Division III girls or the Division IV boys and girls teams.
