There’s a reason basketball games are two halves — just ask the Alvirne HIgh School girls, who rallied in the second half for a win on Thursday night.

However,it was a tough night for both the South girls and Campbell boys hoop teams, but Cougar Colton Martel had a big scoring night.

Here’s the rundown of a light schedule:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PINKERTON 75, NASHUA SOUTH 51

The Astros spoiled the Panthers’ bid to win two in a row, as South fell to 1-4. However, Maizie Barker continued her scoring pace as she led the Panthers for the second straight game, getting 17 points. Ella Karavanic added 12 and Lizzie DeRusha had eight.

The Astros (5-2) snapped a two-game losing streak. South is right back at it tonight at Windham.

ALVIRNE 53, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 43

The Broncos exploded for 21 points in the final quarter put three players in double figures in improving to 4-4, winning their third straight. Paige McKinley had 13 points and Alyssa Scharn and Jaime O’Connor added 10.

Alvirne held the Crusaders, who led 16-11 after one and 29-20 at the half to just 14 points over the final 16 minutes. Alvirne, paced by O’Connor, outscored Memorial 21-6 in the final period.

Alvirne is off until next Friday, Jan. 20, when it visits Trinity.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ST. THOMAS 72, CAMPBELL 56

The Cougars had been flying high, winners of three in a row until the Saints upended them in Litchfield to improve to 6-1.

However, the Saints had no answer for Cougar Colton Martel, who had a whopping 31 points and seven assists. Austing McHugh had 14 points and eight rebounds as well.

Campbell is now 6-3 and will be at Hillsboro-Deering on Tuesday.

WRESTLING

LEBANON 36, CAMPBELL 23

The Cougars managed wins by Adam Jusczak at 138 (technical fall, 15-0), Chris Corbett at 145 (pin, 1:40), Logan Allaire at 160 (pin, 1:13) and Nick Hershberger at 195 (pin, 1:21).
