HS Roundup: South, Merrimack, Alvirne post baseball wins

The final full day of the high school regular spring season for most sports took place Friday, and it was a great way to end the season for sume, including the Nashua South baseball team.

The Panthers go into the Division I tourney on a winning streak, and it’s very possible — nothing is official until the pairings come out next week — that Nashua North and South could meet in the first round in a mid-afternoon game Thursday at Holman Stadium.

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 4, KEENE 2

Nolan Mederos struck out 10 and help secure the Panthers their eighth consecutive win. Caleb Rich had a double and a RBI with Devin Sawyer adding a hit and a RBI. South ends the regular season at 15-4.

WINDHAM 6, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans hit a rough stretch at the worst time, losing their last six and 10 of their last 11 to end the regular season. But they will still get in as the 14th seed in a 15-team tourney.

ALVIRNE 1, SPAULDING 0

Ty Baker safety squeezed Kyle Dufour in from third to score the winning run for the Broncos. DJ Thibeault, Jake Dufour, Ethan Moccia, Braden Simard, Alex Blais and Devin Smith had hits in the game. Baker also pitched seven innings allowing three hits and striking out four. Alvirne end the season at 5-14.

MERRIMACK 4, SALEM 3

The Tomahawks (5-13) end a five game losing streak to end the regular season. Elliott Medlock (two hits, two runs), Owen Medlock (run), Dylan Brander (two hits, RBI) and Aidan Ponder (RBI) led the offense past the Blue Devils. Brander picked up the win pitching six innings allowing five hits and three runs while striking out six.

SOFTBALL

KEENE 15, NASHUA SOUTH 3

The Panthers struggled defensively in their season finale against the Blackbirds. Hailey Bettencourt and Emily Richard drove in runs in the fourth inning with Morgan Gillis adding two hits on the day.

Elizabeth DeRusha took the loss allowing eight hits 15 runs and striking out three over seven innings. South ends the season at 2-16.

WINDHAM 12, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans finish the season winless with a record of 0-18. Tylea Wong pitched a complete game striking out four. Cailin Carbonneau (two hits, two runs), Sam Small (two hits, run), Taylor Joyal (two hits) and Mack Brady (two hits) showed strength at the plate.

JOHN STARK 8, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6

The Cavaliers put up a battle tying the game 5-5 in the fifth, but John Stark persevered in the end. Kailey Disco (double), Ally Johnson (single, RBI), Ava Imbrogno (single, RBI), Emily Tebbetts (two singles, double, RBI), Savannah Duquette (two run homerun) and Austyn Kump (two singles, homerun, RBI) played great at the plate. Kump also added eight strikeouts in the circle.

HB finishes the season at 10-6 and will host a playoff game in Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

DERRYFIELD 19, ALVIRNE 6

The Broncos end their regular season with a loss and a record of 6-10, but played well once agains defensively and showed improvement on their man-up plays.

GIRLS LACROSSE

GOFFSTOWN 12, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 11

The Cavaliers (13-4) finish off the regular season with close loss to the Grizzlies. Bella Haytayan led the way with six goals. Caileen Roy (two assists) and Maddison Caetano each found the back of the net twice. Paige Mello added a goal and two assists and Abbie Ogren had an assist. Hallie Bardani made 10 saves in net.

TRACK MEETS POSTPONED

The Division II and III boys and girls track championships set for today at Pelham High School have been moved to Sunday, same time, 10 a.m. (II) and 3 p.m. (III) due to a threat of storms.
