HS ROUNDUP: Merrimack skaters win; North wrestlers top BG

They won three games back in a holiday tourney at Conway Arena, but those don’t count in the regular season. But finally, the Merrimack High School boys hockey team got one that did on Saturday in beating Kingswood at Conway Arena.

It was also a big wrestling day as BG held a quad meet that included Nashua North and Souhegan while Merrimack had its Hall of Fame tourney and Nashua South was at a quad meet in Exeter.

In hoop, the Hollis Brookline girls got back on the winning track. We also have ski results from two nights ago.

So let’s take a look:

BOYS HOCKEY

MERRIMACK 6,

KINGSWOOD 2

The Tomahawks picked up their first regular season win (1-2), as Eliot Medlock and Brayden Guagliaumi each had a two goals and an assist at West Side Arena.

Tyler Harris and Noah Kahn scored the other two goals for the ‘Hawks, while Kahn also had two assists and Owen Miner one. Matt Licata was solid in goal for Merrimack, which is at Alvirne-Milford at Skate 3 on Monday.

PINKERTON 7,

NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 1

The Kings were up against a good hockey team on the road and fell to 1-5. Their next game is next Saturday vs. Alvirne-Milford at Conway Arena.

BERLIN-GORHAM 3,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE-DERRYFIELD 2 (OT)

Tate Flint (unassisted) and Paul Vachon (Luke Vella assist) provided the offense for the Warriors, who dropped their second straight in a thriller.

Cavan Quinn had a big night in goal for the locals, with 31 saves.

BOYS BASKETBALL

SOUHEGAN 46,

HANOVER 34

The winning continues for the unbeaten (10-0) Sabers, who got 17 points from John McBride and 11 from Matt Galbraith. The Sabers were down 24-23 early in the second half but held the Marauders to just 11 points the rest of the way.

CONVAL 58,

MILFORD 46

After the Spartans led early at 7-5, the Cougars took a 10-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Chuck Urda had 18 to lead the Spartans, who also got 13 from Malachi Page off the bench and 12 from Ryon Constable.

ALVIRNE 57,

LONDONDERRY 50

The Broncos, finally at full strength, were outscored 18-9 in the final quarter but still held off the Lancers to improve to 6 as Alyssa Scharn scored 17 and Ella Hartson had 11.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 54,

MERRIMACK VALLEY 48

Elisabeth Stapelfeld had another 20 point game – 20 exactly – while Cheyenne Col bert had a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) as the host Cavaliers improved to 8-3.

Stapelfeld added eight rebounds while Amanda Robbins had 12 points and Daniella Allanach had eight points and six boards. HB is home Tuesday vs. Laconia.

CONVAL 44,

MILFORD 38 (OT)

The Spartans lost a heartbreaker to fall to 6-4, unable to hold a five-point lead late in regulation and outscored 9-3 in the extra session.

Freshman point guard Lulu Maguire led Milford with 15 points, while Avery Fuller had seven, Addie Hopkins added six and both Ellianna Nassy and Julianna DaLuz added four apiece. Kate Hansen was a force on the boards for Milford, which hosts Bow on Tuesday.

Morgan Bemont led the Cougars with 17 points.

The Cardinals got 18 points from Matt Santosuosso and 10 from Spencer Matarazzo in improving to 7-3.

NASHUA NORTH 42,

North got wins by fall at Jesse Rutstein at 120, Finn Mullaly (152), and Toby Brown (220). North picked up forfeits at 132, 138 and 145 for 18 key points.

Guertin’s wins were by Aleczander Jaracz at 106 (12-8 decision), John Forcier at 126 (8-2), William Murphy at 160 (by fall), Matthew Ha at 170 (by fall), James Murphy at 182 (by fall), Charlie Bellavance (by fall), and Rocco Geraci at 285.

The Titans got pins by Ben Haight at 126, Andrew Frye (145), Finn Mullaly (152), Kole Ducharme (160), Ethan Preson Teixeira (170), Bryson Borromeo (182), and Toby Brown at 285. Also, North’s Jonathan Torres won by decision at 138.

NASHUA NORTH 72,

SOUHEGAN 9

In this match, North recorded pins by Matt Oliver (113), Dimitri Moreno at 132, Andrew Frye at 145, Steven Rosario (152), Toby Brown at 220, and Reed Lavoie at 285.

Souhegan’s Logan Brown won at 126 by fall while Christian Knuckles triumphed at 160 by a 6-2 decision.

MERRIMACK HOF TOURNEY

MERRIMACK 42,

LONDONDERRY 30

The Tomahawks, in their Hall of Fame event, got wins by Mitchell Krupp at 145 (pin) and Anthony Lesmerises by fall at 182. Their other points came via forfeit.

Nashua got all its points via forfeit except the six recorded by Edniel Reyes at 170 by fall.

NASHUA SOUTH 48,

WINNACUNNET 19

Wins by fall for South included Anthony Fernandez at 132 and Nicholas Samos at 138. The rest of South’s points were by forfeits.

NASHUA SOUTH 46,

EXETER 18

South wins by fall included Ryan Salemi at 113, Kyle Vancellette at 138, and Damien Perez at 152. South’s Connor Whitman won by a 14-2 major decision at 145.

BOYS & GIRLS SKIING

NORTH SEVENTH, SOUTH FIFTH

(Thursday)

The Nashua North boys and girls placed seventh in a Slalom meet Thursday at Pat’s Peak hosted by Keene.

The boys meet was won by Bedford with 388 points, with Keene second. South totaled 315, led by Tim Crook, who finished 12th in a two-run time of 1:14.03. Ryan Vogel was 30th in 1:37.35 while Roan Herbert was 39th in 1:43.83.

For the Titans, Andrew Barry was 21st overall in 1:27.93. Cam Scorpa was 36th in 1:42.10.

In the girls race, Bedford (371) edged Pinkerton (367.5) for the top spot. Nashua North (seventh, 282 points) was led by Brooke D’Silva, who was 40th overall in 1:48.17, and Sanya Rane, who was 42nd in 1:49.22 and Eden Goodman (45th, 1:53.35).

Nashua South didn’t compete as a team but Olivia McGadden was the top local, coming in 39th in 1:45.21.
