HS Roundup: Good day for locals at Manchester Invitational

It was quite a day for locals in the return of the Manchester Invitational Cross Country race at Derryfield Park after a year’s absence.

But Souhegan’s Chloe Trudel and Bishop Guertin’s Marykate Finn grabbed the attention with a second place finish in the Small School Divison Varsity race (Trudel) and third place finish in the Large School Division (Finn)

Bishop Guertin also proved to be a team to be reckoned with in both the boys and girls large school races.

Meanwhile, there was one up, one down on the boys soccer field, plus other results:

BG BOYS FIFTH (Large),

SOUHEGAN FIFTH (Small)

Nate Fondakowski led the way for the Cardinals to finish fifth in the large school boys division race won by Rhode Island’s Bishop Hendricken.

Fondakowski was 12th overall in 16:28, while Mtt Giardina was 38th in 17:11, Sean O’Keefe 40th in 17:13 and osh Riers 46th (17:26).

Nashua South, led by Juho Hato (57, 17:39) and Alex Thibeault (79, 18:04) were the next local team in 17th place.

Alvirne, paced by Nick Marcotte (50, 17:35) and John Crawford (17:36) was 20th. North, paced by Matt Robert (18:45) was 29th and Merrimack (Cam Fredette, 17:45, 59) was 30th.

In the small school division won by Oyster River, Souhegan was the top local team finishing fifth, led by Jaren Noorda (17, 17:44), Josh Goddard (33, 18:22) and Owen Stine (18:29).

Hollis Brookline finished 16th led by Ryan Burgher (22, 17:49) and Ayden Finegan (68, 19:20). Milford was 24th led by Daniel Sixon’s 25th place finish in 17:50, while Campbell was 27th with Devin Lencki (56, 18:55) setting the pace.

GIRLS DIVISIONS

BG SIXTH (Large),

SOUHEGAN FOURTH (Small)

Guertin was led by Marykate Finn, who finished third in 19:10, while Liz White was 34th in 21:15, followed by Madelein Moynihan (52), Katie Kraft (54) and Fiona Doherty (75th).

Nashua North and South were right with each other. North was 15h led by Dantia Braccio (13th, 20:25), Erin Sung (53, 21:51) and Christina Juris (62, 22:07).

The Panthers were 16th, led by Meghan Conway (23, 20:59), Jenna Lecklider (49, 21:47) and Alana Perry (83).

Merrimack finished 20th led by Melanie Bedard (31, 21:10) and Eileen Pencinger (69, 22:38).

Souhegan finished fourth overall in the small school race with not one, but two runners in the top five. Trudel took second with a time of 19:22 while Stephanie Svendsen was fifth in 19:52. Emma Jarnagin was 19th (21:01) and Anna Bramer-Depuy 26th (21:21).

Campbell was the next highest local in 17th, led by Brooke Sullivan (23:24, 68) and Amelia Silver (23:33, 72).

BOYS SOCCER

CONCORD 1,

NASHUA NORTH 0

It was another great effort yet the Titans felt the frustration of not being able to get that much-needed score.

“We outplayed them the entire game and couldn’t score,” Titans coach Josh Downing said. “Very frustrating.”

Yasid Poolakal was outstanding in net for North with a strong defense in front of him. The Titans (2-5) visit Portsmouth on Tuesday.

SOUHEGAN 7,

MANCHESTER WEST 0

The Sabers got two goals each by Joe Bernasconi and Dylan Boyer to improve to 5-3.

Mike Erickson, Coleman Paulini and Ryan Lockitt also scored while assists went to Alan Clay (four), Coleman and Baxter Paulini.

Ryan Lockitt and Adyn Davis split time in goal for the Sabers with three saves apiece. Souhegan is at Coe-Brown on Monday.

FIELD HOCKEY

NASHUA SOUTH 1,

TIMBERLANE 0

Maren Lowell scored for the 3-4-2 Panthers off a Kaitlyn West assist.

Also playing well for South were Olivia Laro, Moragan Preston and Soleil Dubois.

Panthers goalie Kaitlyn Tello made a key save off a penalty corner with one minute left, ending up with four saves in all to preserve the win and shutout.

South faces Windham on Monday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

CAMPBELL 3,

WINNISQUAM 0

The Cougars enjoyed a Homecoming win, 25-11, 25-9,27-25 and stayed unbeaten (8-0) with Catherine Carignan leading the way with nine aces, four kills and five digs.

Morgan Brunier added seven aces, fourkills, one dig and 19 assists, while Kristina Castelano had two aces, eight kills, two digs and one block.

Campbell is back at it on Tuesday at Milford, while Winnisquam, which has given the Cougars problems in the past, fell to 3-5.
