HS Roundup: Cavs win Saber showdown; Saber girls lax wins

A lot of the baseball has been focused at Holman Stadium this spring, but look a couple of miles to the west and you see another couple of good teams.

Those two teams met on Tuesday, with the host Hollis Brookline Cavaliers topping the Souhegan Sabers, and they’ll meet again this Saturday in Amherst.

It was the top event of a busy day locally that saw wins by Milford baseball, Merrimack boys lacrosse, Souhegan girls lacrosse and more:

BASEBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,

SOUHEGAN 1

Drew Gryniewicz was a triple shy of a cycle for the Cavaliers (7-0) in their win over the Sabers (8-2). Gryniewicz also drove in five runs in his dominant day at the plate.

Brandon Hsu (shown in photo) went the distance for the Cavaliers scattering two hits and striking out 12. Hsu improves to 4-0 on the season and has yet to give up an earned run.

Torin White doubled and Padraig MacSeain scored two runs for the Cavs. Nolan and Reese Colby had hits for Souhegan. Nick Wilson allowed two hits and three runs for the Sabers over 3.2 innings striking out two.

MILFORD 10,

SANBORN 1

The Spartans (5-1) put another one in the win column with a road victory. Nolan Ingemi (two hits, four RBIs) highlighted the day with a three run homerun in the first inning.

Milford put up six runs in the first two innings. Jake Ingemi had three hits and two runs. Trice Cote, Damian Philbrick and Michael Lima all had two hits to help the Spartans 14 hit attack. Nolan Ingemi started the game giving up only one unearned run, then Philbrick got the win in relief.

Milford hosts Sanborn on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 14,

NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans (1-9) drop their fourth straight game Tuesday on the road. Jack Peters recorded two goals and Robert Cannaway added one. Josh Kane wrangled up five ground balls with Devyn Lavoie making eight saves in net. North hosts Londonderry o Thursday.

MERRIMACK 12,

SALEM 10

Matthew Todd’s (three goals, five assists) eight points leads the way for the Tomahawks (4-6) in their win. Jason Hostler (four goals, one assist), Shea Goodwin (one goal, one assist), Kyle Dunn (two goals, one assist), Jackson Forbes (one goal) and Connor Lanigan (one goal) shined on the offensive side of the game. Cam Wheeler led the defense and Alex Griffin made five saves. Merrimack hosts Salem today.

SOUHEGAN 13,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 10

The Sabers nick out a close win against the Cavaliers on Tuesday night. HB’s Hunter Hudzik led the offense with five goals, Ethan Bender (three assists) and Joe O’Reilly (three assists) each had two goals, while Ben Dufoe added one.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SOUHEGAN 18,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Sabers took control of the game early and beat the Sabers in dominant fashion. Abby Hawkes (four goals, two assists) and Cali Bishop (three goals, three assists) each had six points for Souhegan.

Emma Kennedy, Lyla Kimball, Elle Stevenson, Nicole O’Rourke, Delaney Facques and Shannon Hargreaves scored two goals apiece. Margot Manz rounded out the Sabers scoring with one goal. HB’s Alyssa Hill had two goals and one assist. Abbey Magnuszewski and Bella Haytayan scored one goal apiece. Souhegan and HB will matchup again on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 9,

TRINITY 0

The Broncos (9-2) put together yet another shutout performance, when they defeated Trinity at home. Singles winners were Peyton Meuse (8-0), Ashton Meuse (8-0), Tom Bondaruk (8-0), Charlie Thomas (8-0), Jon Rudy (8-0) and Broady Burke (8-0).

The teams of Meuse/Meuse (8-0), Bondaruk/Thomas (8-1) and Rudy/Burke (8-1) won their doubles matches.

Alvirne hosts Merrimack today.

GIRLS TENNIS

GOFFSTOWN 6,

MILFORD 3

Grace Carpenter (8-0) and Adrianna George (8-3) picked up singles wins for the Spartans in their Tuesday afternoon loss. Carpenter and George teamed up to win 8-0 in doubles competition.

Milford hosts Sanborn on Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3,

KEENE 1

The Cardinals (6-4) defeat the Blackbirds by the scores of 25-13, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20. DJ Omogrosso was all over the court tallying 12 kills, six digs, three aces and two blocks.

Trent Rider was no slouch picking up seven aces, six kills and six digs. Erik Wizboski (12 kills) and Peter Bogosian (15 assists, two kills, two aces) added additional help to the offense.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

JOHN STARK 0

The Cavaliers (5-2) swept John Stark 25-12, 25-21, 25-22. Dan Sattler (five kills, five aces), Kaleb Popham (five aces), Ben St. John (10 assists) and Spencer Murray (six digs) played well in the win. HB hosts John Stark on Friday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 28

Nathaniel Fondakowski got a win for the Cards in the 3200, while Nate Brodeur won the triple jump.

MILFORD

The Spartans dominated, led by the following winners: Reggie Hardwick (200), Nick Giordano (400), Caleb Korthals (800), Daniel Sixon (1600), Ryon Constable (long jump), Nick Sloan (triple jump), Caden Zalenski (shot put, discus), and Alex Addonizio (javelin). The Spartans also took both relays.

GIRLS TRACK

BEDFORD 92.6,

BISHOP GUERTIN 52

Liz White took the 400 for the Cards, who also got wins from Audrey Murrin (high jump), Grace Jones (long jump), Marissa Parshley (javelin) and the 4×400 team of Liz White, Kathleen Messer, Mary-Kate Finn and Fiona Doherty.

MILFORD 105,

SANBORN 28

It was all Milford, for the most part with wins by Keely Giordano (200), Abbey Halloran (800, 1600), Olivia Vogel (pole vault), Renee Wilson (long jump), Sarah Sawyer (triple jump), Kylie Allen (shot put), Rachel Gizzonio (discus and javelin).
