Nashua South-Pelham hockey season halted for two weeks

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Feb 13, 2021

The Nashua South-Pelham hockey teamwas celebrating its first goal of the season last Saturday, but now thanks to a precautionary two-week quarantine they likely won't play a game again until the tournament begins March 3.

The Kings are in quarantine.

And as a result, the Nashua High School South-Pelham hockey team has likely played its last regular season game for this bizarre 2021 pandemic-filled campaign.

Nashua athletic director Lisa Gingras confirmed on Friday that the Kings last four games won’t be played due to precautionary measures and the team won’t be able to return to practice until Feb. 23.

However, they will be able, given the timing of that return, to compete in the post-season, she said. The Division I tournament is set to begin Wednesday, March 3, giving the team a week of practice time upon its return.

“That’s definitely the positive thing that we get about five practices under our belts,” Kings coach Jordan Sarracco said. “It’s tough, but it’s definitely something we knew was possible going into this season. We just have to roll with the punches.”

The Kings were also the victims of a district-wide pause right after the holidays, so they have only played two games, losing to Bishop Brady 6-0 and Manchester Memorial 5-1.

The games cancelled were vs. Alvirne-Milford next Wednesday in Hudson and next Saturday at Conway Arena, plus vs. rival North-Souhegan at Conway on Feb. 22 and Manchester Memorial at JFK Coliseum on Feb. 25.

“We’ll continue with zoom meetings for now,” Sarracco said. “We’ll go over systems, plays, etc. Hopefully when we have the draw for the tournament we’ll get North-Souhegan so we can get that game in.”
