Guertin boys, girls hockey teams are off to 2-0 starts

It was a holiday sweep Monday for the Bishop Guertin boys and girls hockey teams as they are both now 2-0 to start the season:

BOYS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 4,

LONDONDERRY 2

The Cardinals had four different scorers at Hooksett’s Tri-Town Arena in jumping out to a 2-0 start on the young season.

The Cards got goals from Sean Kelley, Logan Vogel,Quinn Cepiel and Mike Kiely. Derek Amaral had two assists, while single assists went to Sam Woodford and Sam Cronin.

Guertin outshot the Lancers by a whopping 36-15, with netminder John Casey stopping 13 shots.

The Cards led 2-0 entering the third period but Londonderry got a goal off the opening faceoff and then tied it with a power play goal midway through the third. However, 23 seconds later, Capiel buried a rebound of a Johnny Mantone shot to give BG the lead for good, 3-2, and Kiely added an insurance goal on the power play at 11:16.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday at Hudson’s Cyclones Arena at 3:30 p.m.

GIRLS HOCKEY

MANCHESTER CENTRAL-MEMORIAL 1

The Cardinals are now 2-0, getting two goals apiece from Lindsay Hult and Julie McLaughlin (plus an assist).

Jenna Lynch added a goal and an assist, while Tessa Wilkie had two assists. Also scoring for BG were Elise Harnish, Kathryn Simpson and Evie Holt.

Emma Landry scored for Manchester as the Cards led 3-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second, then broke it open in the third.

Hult, Ann Young, McKenzie Husson and Gracie Menicci played well defensively for the Cards, who had Makenna Reekie in goal for the win.

Guertin, which has outscored the opposition 16-3 in its first two games, hosts Bishop Brady-Trinity-West on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Cyclones Arena.
