High school roundup: Guertin girls romp, Merrimack wins

Opening night for most area high school basketball teams brought some interesting results, and a good night for Merrimack head coaching debuts.

Meanwhile, it was same as it ever was for the Bishop Guertin girls basketball team.

Here’s a look at Friday’s results:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 77,

GOFFSTOWN 33

The Cardinals were led by Meghan Stack’s 21 points, as 11 Guertin players were in the scoring column.

Brooke Paquette added 10 while Molly Smith and Kaillee McDonald added nine apiece.

Guertin visits Bedford on Sunday at 4 p.m. in a huge early season showdown.

PINKERTON 51,

ALVIRNE 40

The Broncos were within a point with three minutes left but faded down the stretch.

“Great energy by the girls as they played almost neck and neck with one of the top tier teams in our division,” Alvirne coach Frank Girginis said. “I’m proud of their effort, but I know we have more in the tank.”

Paige McKinley led Alvirne with nine points while Rachel Allard added seven.

Alvirne visits Merrimack on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK 50,

SALEM 44

Gillian Waller had 16 points while Kaylee Bormuth added 10 points and 11 rebounds to give Bryan Duggan his first career win as a head coach.

Lilli Dabilis added eight points and three assists while Keira Bike added seven points and three steals for the ‘Hawks, who host Alvirne on Tuesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 62,

MILFORD 14

The Cavs’ Elisabeth Stapelfeld led all scorers with 19 points, while Cheyenne Colbert had eight pints and eight rebounds as HB jumped out to a 21-7 lead and never looked back.

McKenna Dunn and Caroline Clark each had seven points for HB. Milford was led by Bailey Johnson with seven.

HB hosts Conant next Friday at 5 p.m. Milford right now is slated to host Souhegan that same day at 4:30 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GOFFSTOWN 59,

BISHOP GUERTIN 54

The Grizzlies pulled off a stunner, thanks to 27 points by Mason Blondeau.

Goffstown led 47-43 heading into the fourth quarter and pulled away down the stretch. The Cards, who are at Londonderry on Tuesday, were paced by Javari Ellison and John Sullivan, who had 12 points apiece.

PINKERTON 60,

ALVIRNE 52

The Broncos were within 54-52 with a minute left but the Astros went on a 6-0 run to finish the game. Pinkerton had four players in double figures: Justin Dunne, Jackson Marshall, Anthony Chinn and Drew Blander.

The Broncos were paced by Liam O’Neil’s 15 points, plus 13 from Jake Hibbard and 10 from Brenden Graham.

Alvirne hosts Merrimack on Tuesday.

MERRIMACK 60,

SALEM 59

The Tomahawks held on to give Austin Denton his first career win as head as head coach, despite 26 points by Salem’s Ryan Pacy.

Jack Tarleton led Merrimack with 20 points while Kobe Pimentel added 17.
