Merrimack boys, Alvirne girls soccer teams stay unbeaten

A pair of local soccer teams stayed unbeaten on Tuesday, the Merrimack High School boys and the Alvirne girls.

Here’s a look at all the local action from Tuesday:

BOYS SOCCER

MERRIMACK 5,

SALEM 4

The Tomahawks (3-0), after a week due to athletic department COVID precautions, prevailed in a second half scoring frenzy, after a 1-1 tie at halftime. Kyle Egan (one assist) topped the scoring charts with two goals; while Carson Papp (two assists), Rosendo Lopez and Zach Chiasson added one goal apiece.

Merrimack will visit Salem on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 7,

BISHOP BRADY 0

After a big shutout win the Cougars move above the .500 line with a 3-2 record. Connor Donaghey led the team with five totals points (three goals, two assists). Brody Mills, Andrew Durfee, Justin Edmonds and Wyatt Hemming also scored.

Goalies Jack Noury and Brady Matthews shared the shutout with seven saves. Campbell hosts Sanborn on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

ALVIRNE 3,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Broncos (4-0) stay undefeated while the Panthers (0-4) remain winless after their matchup on Tuesday. Kelly Perry and Paige Boudreau each had an assist and a goal and Marissa Juliano also found the back of the net.

Bella O’Halloran scored the lone goal for the Panthers. Alvirne and South will meet up in Nashua on Thursday.

FIELD HOCKEY

MERRIMACK 2,

SALEM 0

Kaleigh Daddona and Erin Knauer tallied goals in the Tomahawks’ (1-0-1) shutout win.

Chloe Kapsambelis and Daddona recorded assists. Merrimack will travel to Salem on Thursday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

SALEM 3,

MERRIMACK 2

The Tomahawks (0-3) lost to the Blue Devils by the scores of 26-24, 25-11, 17-25, 22-25, 8-15.

Lily Petrocelli had four kills and four blocks, Lindsey Hui collected 16 digs, Joselyn Fowler had six digs and Isabella Smith had 26 assists, seven aces and five kills.

Merrimack hosts Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

The locals were outplayed by Bedford at Nashua Country Club. Nashua North’s Bryce Zimmerman had the second lowest score on the day with a 35. Eva Gonzales and Chris McQuinn shot a 36 and 38 respectively for the Titans.

Ryan Horgan bested the rest of his Cardinals teammates with a 39. Connor Bouvier (42) and Dean Liakos (43) also fared well for BG.

Stephen Robbe represented the Panthers shooting a 41with Nate Campbell (49) and Mihir Bhalla (51) right behind.

WINNACUNNET 209,

PORTSMOUTH 210,

ALVIRNE 216

The Broncos had their work cut out for them, but finished the day with a respectable score (lowest team score of the season) at Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club.

Noah LeClair was a medalist shooting a 34. Peyton and Ashton Meuse shot a 41 and 44 respectively, while Ethan Doran ended his day with a 46.

Alvirne will be preparing for the postseason next.

CROSS COUNTRY

NASHUA SOUTH GIRLS,

ALVIRNE BOYS WIN

Nadia Zhecheva (20:12.9) and John Crawford (18:30.3) won their individual races for Nashua South and Alvirne respectively as the Panther girls and Bronco boys prevailed in the meets between the two schools.

For the girl’s Megan Conway finished second and Jenna Lecklider placed third for South and Alvirne’s Brynna Anderson was fifth.

Couper Downey ran runner up and Nick Marcotte was third representing the Broncos, who took the first six places. Rishav Sood (seventh), Spencer Hawkins (eighth) and Isaiah Hedquist (ninth) ran well for the Panthers.
