Somersworth shocks Campbell girls in Division III prelims

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Oct 30, 2019

The area soccer post-season did not get off to a good start, as the No. 14 Somersworth Hilltoppers shocked No. 3 Campbell 2-1 in the Division III girls preliminary round in Litchfield.

The Hilltoppers (7-9-1) got second half goals by Becca Pincince and Marissa Turgeon to rally and advance to Friday’s quarterfinals.

Morgan Wagner got Campbell’s goal, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Turgeon got the game winner with 11 minutes left, while Pincince’s game-tying goal came in the 53rd minute.

The Cougars end what was anotherwise successful season at 13-4.

“We out-possessed them and created some very good scoring opportunities, but we just couldn’t finish,” Campbell coach Kevin Brassard said. “They caught us with boot ball and good placement on their two goals.

“It’s a disappointing way to end an otherwise very successful season. The girls played hard every game until the final whistle.”
