Cavaliers advance, but Panthers and Broncos fall

By Tom King - Staff Writer | May 22, 2019

Hollis Brookline, still unbeaten, advanced to the Division II semis on Tuesday, but the same fate didn’t befall the local Division I teams:

DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS

NO. 4 EXETER 8,

NO. 5 NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers’ (11-4) tourney woes continue, as they were ousted for the third straight year in the first round.

Their lone win came at No. 1 doubles as the senior tandem of Amol Khanna/Rohan Kumar prevailed 8-4.

NO. 1 BEDFORD 8,

NO. 8 ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos finished their impressive season at 9-6, getting one win against the 15-0 Bulldogs. Ashton Meuse took No. 2 singles, beating Bedford’s Tyler Whitney 8-2. Ashton’s brother Peyton lost a competitive match 8-4 at No. 1 to Bedford’s Jason Boucher, and the Meuse brothers played a close No. 1 doubles match in an 8-5 loss to Boucher/Derek Dong.

DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS

NO. 1 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,

NO. 8 LEBANON 2

The 15-0 Cavaliers keep on rolling, right into Thursday’s semifinals against No. 4 Windham. Although Nic Vahe fell to Lebanon’s Mason Arado 8-5 at No. 1, it was a singles sweep the rest of the way for HB with Darius Paradie (8-1), Max Burns (8-3), Ben Zielinski (8-5), Alex Anghel (8-4) and Cole Lorig (8-2) coming out on top.

With the match already decided, Vae/Lorig fell at No. 1 doubles 8-4 but the HB Nos. 2 and 3 tandems of Paradie/Anghel and Burns/Zielinski both won their matches 8-2.

HB just played Windham (11-3) this past Saturday, winning an abbreviated match 5-1. Thursday’s match will be played at Manchester West High School at 4 p.m.
