Hollis Brookline crushes ConVal

Hollis Brookline's Connor Zorn, Mike Gillespie and John Rutledge take a break from the heat.

HOLLIS – Following a tough loss last week in Hanover, the Cavaliers of Hollis-Brookline rediscovered their rhythm, easily defeating ConVal, 42-0.

The Cavaliers finished the day with 490 total yards of offense, breaking ConVal tackles at-will as they scored in all but one of their first half drives.

Sander Wimmer threw two touchdowns in the air, a three-yard strike to Austin Johnson and a nine-yard throw to Austin Brown. Wimmer also added a rushing score as well, ending the day with 59 yards on the ground and 210 yards through the air.

Wimmer connected on 16 of his 21 passes, but he wasn’t the only Cavalier quarterback with a good day. Once the game was in hand, junior Alex Lee entered the contest and completed five of his seven attempts, good for another 52 yards for Hollis-Brookline.

Wimmer and Lee each threw an interception, but the Cougars still could not capitalize, entering the red zone just once.

Along with Wimmer’s scores on the ground and through the air, Hollis-Brookline also obtained rushing touchdowns from Ben Lindsey, Brandon Iodice and Sander’s brother Quinten.

Outside of the interceptions, perhaps the only negative moment on the day came on the game’s final play with a hurried field goal attempt that could not find its way through the uprights.

All in all, Hollis-Brookline head coach Chris Lones was pleased.

“Other than the interception Sander had in the first quarter, we moved the ball and we did what we came in to do with our game plan offensively,” he said. “We didn’t have many mistakes. We had too many mistakes last week in Hanover, that was huge. You can’t miss opportunities.”

Iodice led all rushers, ending with 67 yards on 10 carries, more than the 62 yards combined from ConVal as a team. In the air, Johnson had five receptions for 63 yards while the Wimmer brothers connected three times for 74 yards, with Quinten throwing a two-point conversion to Sander late in the first half.

Hollis-Brookline now heads to Manchester West for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday. ConVal returns home for a contest at the same time against Alvirne.
