By Staff | Sep 5, 2014

SWANZEY – The Souhegan High School football team relied heavily on Cameron Kinney in Friday night’s season opener.

The junior running back didn’t disappoint, carrying the ball 17 times for 158 yards and three touchdowns as the Sabers pulled off a 27-20 win over Monadnock on the Huskies’ home field.

Quarterback Mike Mancini connected on four of his seven passes for 63 yards, one touchdown and one interception. His aerial scoring strike landed in the hands of Brendan Cray (three receptions, 52 yards, one TD).

Monadnock quarterback Deion Russell, who rushed seven times for 37 yards, connected on three of his five passes for 90 yards, two touchdowns – both to Liam Morris, who had two receptions for 86 yards – and one interception in the loss.

Jared Redfield (eight carries, 29 yards) scored the Huskies rushing touchdown, while Bailey Johns (13 carries, 38 yards) also played well in defeat.
