New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman’s 2020 season just hit another bump in the road.

A pandemic bump.

Edelman, who hasn’t played since Oc. 25 since having a medical procedure on his ailing knee, was reportedly placed on the Patriots COVID-19 reserve list on Monday.

Now he has to wait 10 days, or if asymptomatic that can be reduced to five days with two negative tests, to be able to play. If, that is, he was planning on returning at all.

Before the news broke about Edelman, Patriots coach Bill Belichick spoke favorably about his chances to return during a Boston radio interview.

“I think Julian has made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks,” Belichick said on his usual Monday WEEI appearance. “I talked to him the other day and (he’s) certainly feeling better and able to do a little more each day. We’ll take it day-by-day and see how it goes.”

Well that’s taken to another level now. Edelman has 21 catches for 315 yards and no touchdowns thus far this season.

“I know he’s working extremely hard and I would certainly never count Julian out of anything,” Belichick also said. “He’s got a tremendous will and work ethic and very competitive. Football is very important to him, so it would take a lot for me to count him out, put it that way.”

It’s not known if Edelman has tested positive or had a possible exposure.
