Paying premiums to government is easier

By Staff | Oct 2, 2016

I just received important information about changes to my Medicare Drug Plan for 2017.

After reading 160 pages on plan materials, annual notice of changes, evidence of coverage and prescription drug guide, I am now equipped to comparison-shop other companies in order to keep my costs down.

Comparing information about cost, coverage and quality ratings for plans is next to impossible. It is the Rubik’s Cube of drug plans. You save money on one side and it costs more on the other side. You can’t quite match all the sides for savings.

It would be much easier if you paid your premiums to the government and let Congress regulate commerce (Article 1, Section 8, U.S. Constitution). The government could really make it competitive.

The drug companies would actually undercut each other to get the business of hundreds of millions of paid-up customers. Our elected officials would negotiate the best deal "for the people." It is government of "we the people," isn’t it?
