Dysfunctional Aldermans/Alderwomans Meeting

By Staff | Jan 11, 2014

I tuned in to the Board of Aldermen meeting last Sunday. At first, I thought I landed on a pilot for an upcoming sitcom. Then I remembered “All In The Family” is off the air.

The meeting was a demonstration of bruised egos, vocal outbursts, bitterness and gender-phobic accusations. It didn’t make me feel comfortable about the leadership of our city.

I give a great deal of credit for Mr. Deane’s composure and Mr. Donchess’s seasoned reasonableness. The rest of you failed, either in your muteness or stupidity.

Last year my tax bill increased by $500, while my resale value decreased. The residents are paying for your services and it’s not a good return on investment when you’re debating the color of your name plate (pink/blue or tricolor). Who cares? Get over it. You’re acting like 6 year olds heading off to 1st grade. Whether you’re an alderman or alderwoman, what committee you’re on, and where you sit are inconsequential – just get your elected job done. Do something that makes you accountable or you shouldn’t be in public service.
