Review of local restaurant left bad taste in her mouth

In the Telegraph’s Encore section, I read a review written by Kathleen Palmer concerning The Black Forest Cafe. I was struck by the author’s snobbish manner of writing. She observed the patrons, who were mostly of “retirement age” and also declared, “it’s not a hip, modern destination restaurant, for sure.” These remarks border on insulting. The Black Forest is supported by a range of ages and walks of life. Apparently, there are scores of people who select the cafe as their “business plan.”

I’ve taken many visitors to The Black Forest, and have only received positive feedback. I have a friend from Colorado, a “hip” young professional who plans events for a major investment firm. When she’s in town, she plans at least one meal at The Black Forest.

Can I assume Ms. Palmer has eaten at the old Modern restaurant? In the past, my companions and I had good times there but, believe me, there is no comparison between the former Modern and The Black Forest Cafe.

I’ve traveled widely, eating foods from many cultures and in many atmospheres. I consider The Black Forest Cafe surroundings cheerful, warm and comfortable. Its menu is unique and its delicious food supports the menu. Finally, since Ms. Palmer guesses she’s “not the clientele that seeks out comfort food in a no-frills atmosphere,” perhaps she should not have ventured a critique on The Black Forest, a quality cafe that makes its visitors feel welcome.
