This Saturday, Dec. 7, Nashua will host the NH/VT First Lego League Championship at Nashua High School South. The event showcases the talents of New Hampshire and Vermont students ages 9-14 competing in robot design, teamwork and technology innovation. The focus of FLL is to solve a “real world” problem that affects people worldwide. This year’s topic, “Nature’s Fury,” focuses on the effects of extreme weather. Teams are judged in robot design and programming, a research project and teamwork. There is a “game” aspect of the tournament where students use a robot to solve missions on a large playing board, and have 2 1/2 minutes to score as many points on the field as possible.

The FLL program not only helps students utilize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs to come together as a cohesive team, but involves creativity, teamwork, design, marketing, research, and, of course, plenty of fun.
