Richard K. Wesson

Richard K. Wesson, beloved husband and father, died October 8, 2021 with his family by his side. Richard was born in Nashua, NH on May 15, 1949, the third child of the late Jessie A. Steidl and the late Richard J. Wesson. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1967 and received a B.A. in English Literature from UNH in 1971. He attended the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College then moved to Boston where he worked as a freelance writer, editor, publishing consultant, and project manager for technology companies, financial services firms, universities, nonprofit organizations, and private medical practices. He was a member of the Boston Computer Society, the Freelance Editorial Association, and the Graphic Artists Guild. After relocating to Vermont in 1991 he began a new career in human services as Program Coordinator for the Upper Valley Fatherhood Network before joining Windsor County Court Diversion where he reconstituted the Juvenile Restorative Probation Program, expanded the Lebanon Juvenile Court Diversion Program, and developed the Lower Grafton County Court Diversion Program.

While living in Boston he met Marie, and they were married in Middlebury, VT in 1984. Their son Kyle was raised in the Upper Valley where he attended Hartford public schools and Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH.

He enjoyed fitness swimming at the old Fountain of Youth health club, attending plays at Northern Stage and Shaker Bridge Theater, following the Red Sox and the Patriots, patronizing The Howe and Hartford Libraries, walking local trails with his wife Marie, and following the academic and career path of his son Kyle. He enjoyed reading classic as well as contemporary literature and founded the monthly Book Club for Men. In addition, he enjoyed writing and was a founding member of the 4th Friday Poets.

Richard is survived by his wife Marie; his son Kyle; his sisters Joyce Grandmaison and her partner Joe Leddy of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Janet Wesson and her husband Ed Snapp of West Townsend, MA.

A gathering of remembrance will be held in 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Howe Library (thehowe.org/donate) or the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, Inc. specifying the Upper Valley Senior Center (gcscc.org/memorial-giving).

The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Team at DHMC, BAYADA Hospice, and their neighborly Nurse Ratched for their wonderful end-of-life care.
