Shirley A. Conrad

Ipswich – Shirley A. Conrad, 84, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 14, 2021 under the loving care of Trish Everitt and Care Dimensions. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Lilah Vatcher and Wallace B. Conrad. Shirley was predeceased by her brother Robert Conrad and sister Joan Conrad.

An accomplished athlete, Shirley was inducted into the Acton-Boxborough High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She enjoyed skiing, golf, tennis and taught sailing for many years at the Girl Scout Sailing Camp on Martha’s Vineyard. She enjoyed music and was a longtime member of the Chorus North Shore. During her tenure with CNS, Shirley served as tenor co-section leader, assisted with the music library and participated in numerous singing tours to Europe and Puerto Rico. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, art projects and providing a loving home for the special pets in her life. Shirley was an active member of Ascension Memorial Episcopal Church in Ipswich. Her church activities included service on the vestry, junior warden, lector, eucharistic lay minister and altar server.

Choosing education as her career path, Shirley graduated from Bridgewater State College with a major in Health and Physical Education and completed a Master’s Degree in Education at Salem State College. She taught at Haverhill High School, the University of New Hampshire and Salem State College. Shirley served as Dean of Women at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware prior to returning to New England. She retired after twenty-five years as a guidance counselor at Elm Street Junior High School in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Shirley is survived by Trish Everitt, lifelong companion, niece Barbara and her husband Jim Coleman of Cheboygan, MI, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great nieces. A celebration of her life will be held at Ascension Memorial Church at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in Shirley’s name to: Ascension Memorial Church Music Fund, P.O.
