Denise Elaine (Fortin) Gravel

Denise Elaine (Fortin) Gravel, 65, Passed peacefully at home in Webster, NH surrounded by her loving family on January 31, 2021. She is laid to rest after a hard fought battle with ALS.

Denise was the beloved wife of David Gravel, mother of three children, Lauren Kapp of Hawaii, Natalie Sullivan and her husband David of Tiverton, RI, and Brian Pfeiffer of Boston, MA, and grandmother to Noelle and Shane Sullivan. Denise was the daughter of the late Edward N. and Pearl T. (Lavoie) Fortin, born in Nashua, NH on September 18, 1955. Besides her children and grandchildren, she is also survived by her 5 brothers and sisters, Roger Fortin and his wife Mary of Hudson, Richard Fortin and his wife Lisa of Dover, Jeanne Dougherty and her husband Thomas of Merrimack, Donald Fortin and his wife Barbara of Nashua and Lisa Kuscher and her husband Nathanial of Brookline, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Denise Joined the Marines in 1980 completing basic training at the Parris Island Military Base in South Carolina. She served for 7 years and spent the last few years of service as a Drill Instructor for the Corps.

She then went on to take various careers including opening her own clothing store and working as a florist, but her true passions were always with her family, nature and animals. She loved being with her family, hiking with her dogs, kayaking, and tending to her gardens.

Denise’s Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10am at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, 777 W. Hollis Street, Nashua. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment and military honors presented in St. Louis Cemetery in Nashua. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Denise’s name to the ALS Association at P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA, 50037-022, or The Department of Veterans Affairs, 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH 03104.
