Mary J. Theriault

Jan 9, 2021

Mary J. Theriault, 96, of Nashua, NH, passed away quietly on Friday evening, December 25, 2020 at Langdon Place of Nashua. Born in Providence, RI on June 25, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late Mary (McMurray) Swendeman. Mary was also predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Carroll “Terry” Theriault.

Mary graduated from Winthrop High School in Winthrop, Massachusetts. In high school, Mary was an excellent tennis player, winning many school and town tournaments. After high school, Mary worked for several years in Boston at Aetna. She met the love of her life, Terry Theriault, on a beach in Winthrop, and in 1955, she and Terry were married. They went on to live a most wonderful and fulfilling life…a lifelong bond of love, commitment, friendship and children. Mary’s husband and three children were the center of her life. The love and support she poured into her family was unending, and her zeal for life, infectious laugh and always smiling demeanor made her a joy to be around! Mary’s bright and cheery personality, her happy-go-lucky spirit and the encouragement and love she freely gave to those around her, will always be remembered by those who knew her.

Members of her family include her children, Peter Theriault, and his wife, Kathleen, of Merrimack, NH; Mary Meserve, and her husband, David, of Nashua, NH; Suzanne Korn, and her husband, Rich, of North Reading, MA. Three grandchildren include, Diana Haile of Hampton, NH; Matt Theriault of Merrimack, NH; Ian Theriault of Goffstown, NH. Stella May Haile, of Hampton, NH was Mary’s beloved great-granddaughter.

Mary enjoyed her summers with her family on Cow Island, Lake Winnipesaukee. She and her husband were avid sailors, and they shared this passion with their family and friends for 40 years. Nothing made Mary happier than to be with her husband and family doing the things that they loved…sailing, swimming, skiing, etc. When Mary’s family was young they had many adventures traveling around New England and beyond with an Airstream travel trailer in tow. So many incredible memories were made back then and throughout her full life. Mary was always young at heart and her life always focused around family. She was always generous, gracious, and kind, and she will be deeply missed by her family. Mary was the salt of the earth and the heart and soul of it all.

Her family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the administrative staff and second floor nursing staff and healthcare professionals at Langdon Place. The kindness, love, care and compassion they freely gave to Mary, every day, will never be forgotten. Our mother loved all of you. And during this year of Covid, thank you for keeping Mary healthy, happy, and safe. We will always feel blessed and grateful for your loving support.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, NH on Wednesday, December 30 at 11am. Graveside services will be held following the mass at the NH Veteran’s Cemetery, Boscawen, NH, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband, Terry.
