Joan (Garside) Otis

Joan (Garside) Otis, 88, of New Hampton, NH died peacefully, December 21, 2020 at home after a period of failing health. She was born December 9, 1932 in Concord, NH, the daughter of the late Frederick and Madelene Garside. She grew up in Hudson and was a graduate of Nashua High School class of 1950. During her high school years Joan, along with several of her siblings worked at Benson’s Animal Farm in Hudson, NH. After High School Joan attended and graduated from Nashua Business College and worked in various administrative positions, until 1956 when she married USAF Staff Sargent Eugene W. Otis, who originated from Valley Falls, Rhode Island.

Leaving her familiar world of Hudson, NH Joan travelled the world with her husband in the Air Force and raised 3 children in Morocco, England, Taiwan, and several US states. During their 30-year retirement, they left the winter weather and visited family and friends all over the country.

Joan enjoyed family time and the many traveling adventures with her husband. Joan is survived by her husband Eugene of 64 years. Their 3 children: Robert Otis and wife Terri of New Hampton, NH, James Otis and wife Catherine of Richardson, Texas, Donna (Otis) Keeley and husband Steven of Pittsfield, NH. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Sarah Otis, Melissa Otis-Ramirez, Matthew Otis, Samuel Otis, Rebecca Otis, and great-grand-child Levi Locke. Her siblings: Sister Irene Valcourt; brother in-law Arthur Shepard, brother and sister-in-law Fred and Cynthia Garside; brother-in-law Walter Weibrecht; and brother and sister-in-law Alan and Linda Garside. She was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Madelene (Hackett) Garside; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Carol Garside; brother David Garside, brother-in-law Leon Valcourt and sister Reta Shepard and brother-in-law Robert Otis of Vacaville, California.

Per Joan’s wishes there will be no services and burial will take place at a later date.
