Nicholas Pirog

Nicholas Pirog, 91, lifelong resident of Merrimack, NH passed away on Thursday, December 31st, 2020 at the Bel-Air Nursing Home in Goffstown after a period of declining health.

He was born in Merrimack, NH on November 4th, 1929 to the late Harry and Martha (Pitula) Pirog. He was a graduate of Merrimack High School in 1947. After graduating, Nicholas enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1947 – 1950 when he received an honorable discharge. After serving his country, he worked as a carpenter and owned his own business.

Nick loved playing baseball, basketball and golf. He played legion baseball for several years. He was an MYA coach for many years. During his time in the Navy, he played on several baseball and basketball teams for the Navy and accepted an offer to try out for the Boston Red Sox. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan. One would describe him as a passionate sports fan. Until his recent illness he still played golf and fished.

Along with his parents, Harry and Martha, Nick was pre-deceased by his son Gary Pirog in 1987, along with four siblings, John and Peter Pirog, Ann Dupont and Jean Freda.

He will be forever loved and remembered by his four children, Nicholas Pirog II and his wife Sherri, Jeffrey Pirog and his wife Cheryl, Kathleen and her husband Michael Hickey, and Jennifer Pirog and her significant other Craig Fowler; five grandchildren, Nicholas III, Luke, Samantha, Devon and Ryan; a great-granddaughter, Grace Pirog; his significant other, Janice Paradis; sister Dottie Vitiello along with many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to all of the nurses and staff at Bel Air Nursing and Rehab Center for their kindness and caring of Nick and his family during this difficult time.

Per the family’s request, all services for Nick will be held in the spring due to Covid.
