Joyce Lillian (Gilbar) DeCosta

NASHUA – Joyce Lillian (Gilbar) DeCosta, 82, died peacefully Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Bear Mountain Nursing Home in Sudbury; at her daughter Vickie’s side.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. DeCosta Jr. with whom she shared 47 Special years of marriage until his passing on October 20, 2018.

Joyce was born in Reading, Massachusetts on December 1, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Gerald W. and Rita C. (Brenan) Gilbar.

She will forever be remembered for her compassionate demeanor which also helped her as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Over the years, she was employed at many different facilities and especially moving to a number of states with her husband Joe, such as Massachusetts, Florida, Arizona & New Hampshire.

Joyce truly cherished the time she could spend cooking and baking at holiday gatherings for her large extended family, and such treasured memories of traveling with her husband Joe. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, Black Jack and doing puzzles, her greatest pleasure was her time with her grand & great grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her children Vickie L. Panetta and her husband Frank of Lincoln, MA, Ronald DeCosta of Maynard, MA Celeste Wunder and her husband Robert of Dover, NH, Glenn J. DeCosta and his wife Michelle of Lancaster, MA, Dennis T. DeCosta and his wife Nancy of White Bear Lake, MN, Gerard J. DeCosta Sr. and his wife Julie of Litchfield, NH, John P. DeCosta of Derry, NH, Victoria DeCosta of Florida, Donna T. Bailey of Casa Grande, AZ, and. Devoted grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Joyce was also the beloved mother to the late Daniel DeCosta and the late Faithanne DeCosta.

Relatives and friends are invited to Joyce’s Funeral Mass on THURSDAY, December 10th at 10 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua. Due to the current Covid 19 protocols the services will be restricted to the immediate family only. Interment will follow in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s name to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
