Anthony ‘Tony’ Szydlowski

Anthony “Tony” Szydlowski passed away July 4, 2020, about the same time fireworks erupted throughout the city. One could say he went out with a bang. His goal was to live until 100 and he almost made it!! He was predeceased by his father John and his mother Albina Tamolowicz Szydlowski Waiswilos as well as his brother John Szydlowski and sisters Julia Masten and Anna Szydlowski.

Tony was born January 26, 1923 and spent almost his entire life on the same plot of land in the Crown Hill section of Nashua. As the family historian he often told stories of going down to the railroad tracks with his buddies to watch the 1930 fire, only to return home and find his own home and those of his neighbors burning. He watched the floodwaters rise in 1936 and told us how we didn’t know how bad a hurricane could be since we didn’t live through the one in 1938.

He graduated from Nashua High in 1940 earning his letter in track. During World War II he served as a surgical medical technician at the US Army Hospital in Panama. While there he played baseball in the local leagues and was offered a chance to play semi pro ball in the US. However, he made the decision to return home to help his family out. It was then he met his wife Phyllis (his “Feliksa”) Twardosky

and they married in 1947. They shared the same Crown Hill house until her death in 2014.

While in the serv ice he developed a love of music and was a member of the unit’s drum and bugle corp. Upon returning home he played solo soprano horn for the Nashua VFW Drum & Bugle Corp and later for the Manchester Muchachos senior corp. Enjoying being around young people, he paid this love of corps forward as an instructor and leader for the Milford Spartans, Nashua Sabers and Nashua Suburbanettes.

Tony started his post army career as a cutter at the JF McElwain plant in Nashua, working his way up to a plant manager in Manchester. After retirement he could always be found working in his garden or on his lawn with everyone passing by giving him a friendly wave or hello. He spent the later years of his life at the Hunt Community playing pool with his buddies.

He is survived by his daughter Donna Szydlowski and his sister Albina (Maurice) Theriault as well as a multitude of in-laws, nieces and nephews. All of us would like to thank the staff at the Hunt Community as well as the doctors and nurses at SNHMC for taking such kind and thoughtful care of him.

Relatives and friends are invited to Anthony’s graveside service on MONDAY, July 13th at 11 AM in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 61 Pine Hill Avenue, Nashua.
