Dorothy E. Lipson

May 16, 2020

Dorothy E. (Bowen Johnstone) Lipson – 74. Of Nashua, NH, died on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Ridgewood Center in Bedford, NH.

Born in Stoneham, MA on July 5, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Muriel (Dining) Bowen. Dorothy, known as Dolly by many, was raised and attended school in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School; after graduation, she attended the Fanny Farmer Cooking School for restaurant management.

Dolly worked the majority of her life in the food service industry, always known as much for the care she gave those she served, as for the enjoyment she got from it. This was especially true during her tenure at Aynsley Place, whose residents, until her retirement, she lovingly cared for and affectionately referred to as her own. Dolly also worked for Speen & Company, Woburn, MA, as a customer service representative for many years.

Dolly was an animal lover and had many pets through the years, including dogs, cats, and gerbils; in recent years she enjoyed feeding the wildlife by the river, especially her “chippies.” She loved to read, play solitaire, do puzzles, and play video games – she was the first household member to become an avid Mario fan! But any and all of those activities would readily be set aside for a day poking around a HomeGoods store or walking on the beach, especially on the coast of Maine.

She loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays with her family – and was always willing and welcoming to extend that definition for anyone to join (whether temporarily or permanently.) Family members include her current husband of 35-years, Mark A. Lipson and the late Robert J. Johnstone; daughter Patricia (Johnstone) and her husband Kerry Countie, of Londonderry, NH; daughter Amy (Johnstone) and her husband Michael Cudoni of Woburn, MA; daughter Lee-Anne (Johnstone) and her husband Patrick King of Somerville, MA; son Erik Lipson and his significant other Holly Langley of Los Angeles, CA; her grandchildren Shannon, Laura, Kelly, Tyler, Sydney, Sarah, Molly, Cassidy, and Aidan, 2 great-grandchildren; and a cherished friend, Arthur E. Bryer. Dolly leaves behind a sister Joan (Bowen) Camponescki and two brothers, John and Michael Bowen, as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Judith (Bowen) Howard-Struble.

Services will be private, due to COVID-19, with a family celebration of life to be held at a future date. For those of us that love and will miss her, we hang on to memories of many shared monthly birthdays, holidays, her wit, her smile…and a little “friggen jello.” In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
