Veronica Rasmussen

Apr 7, 2020

Veronica Rasmussen, 72, resident of Hopkinton, NH and former longtime resident of Milford, NH, died on April 4, 2020 at the Jack Byrnes Hospice House in Lebanon, NH.

She was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York, on August 12, 1947, a daughter of Royal E. Miller, Jr. and Vera (Graff) Miller.

Veronica graduated from Nashua High School, Class of 1965. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Ackley Associates in Nashua, NH for 40 years. In addition, she had also worked for the Milford School District in the Special Education Department at the Bales Elementary School. Veronica also worked at The Academy of Learning and Technology in Nashua for many years. At each of her places of employment, she made friendships and connections with her colleagues and students, many of whom she stayed in touch with long after retirement. Veronica enjoyed volunteering for the Milford Keyes Swim team and also the Nashua Boys and Girls Club Swim team. Vera could always be found either keeping score, or awarding ribbons and you can bet she was always at the finish line cheering her grand-daughters onto victory. Vera was known as Grandma Vera to so many people who loved her.

Veronica loved to travel, whether it was a trip to Long Island to visit her Aunt, reminisce about her childhood, or grab a soft serve (in a cup) at Carvel with her husband. She treasured her last trip there in June 2019. She also looked forward to the end of tax season as she and Jim would travel to Las Vegas regularly for many years. Vera loved to take cruises with her husband; she especially loved the casinos and shows. Nothing was better than winning big on the penny slots. Vera loved spending time by her pool with family and friends. Her home on West Street, was always open to anyone at any time. She loved Labor Day parades and the parties by her pool. She found enjoyment just being with people. Vera was a loyal and avid Red Sox fan. She never missed a game and enjoyed watching reruns in the off-season. Big Papi held a special place in her heart. Vera enjoyed her crafts, needlepoint, knitting, and sewing. She especially loved sewing with her sister-in-law Doris. She would often make beautiful dresses and was never far from her sewing machine or knitting needles, always with a plan to give a gift to someone special. When she was not crafting or spending time with friends by her pool, she enjoyed her special and beautiful time with Jim and their loyal companion puppies Peanut and Roo. There has never been a love as strong or a bond as loyal as the one shared between James and Veronica.

Family members include her devoted husband of 50 years, James A. Rasmussen of Hopkinton, NH; her loving children and their spouses, Terri-Lynn and Christopher McNeil of Milford, NH, James A. Rasmussen, Jr. and Christine Rasmussen of Collegeville, PA, and Brian H. and Terrie Rasmussen of Porter, Maine; eleven beloved grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three siblings, Royal E. Miller III, of Hudson, NH, Marilyn Morgan of Florida and William C. “Chuck” Miller of Milford, NH; several nieces and nephews.
