Richard W. Murphy

Jan 19, 2020

Richard W. Murphy, 61, of Londonderry, NH, died Wednesday January 15, 2020, in his home surrounded by his loving family, after a long-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Salem, MA on October 16, 1958, the son of Jaqueline (Bulyga) Graham and the late William Murphy.

Moving to Nashua at a young age and completing his education in the Nashua School system he expanded his knowledge base of construction eventually becoming the co-founder of M and M Masonry with his partner Bruce Marinel. Evidence of their endeavors remains today in many commercial buildings throughout the state. Upon changing careers, he then spent the next 25 years as a Feeder supervisor for UPS, from which he retired last year.

Dick was a skilled “jack of all trades” and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. He was generous with his time, skill and equipment, all of which helped a young neighborhood grow and prosper.

This generous spirit continued throughout his life and, as his family grew, he donated his time by becoming involved in Londonderry athletics while coaching baseball, softball and basketball for recreational as well as travel leagues. He was a member of the inaugural coaching staff for Londonderry hockey as it became a varsity sport at LHS. When not on the bench he was the ultimate fan and never missed cheering on his children while teaching them the value of being on a team.

Dicks interests included spending time with family and friends, enjoying the ocean, driving his Mustang, surf casting with friends and spending quality time with his beloved “Murf”.

He was a special man and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Ellen Murphy; son, Bryan Murphy and girlfriend Kortney Holston; daughter, Stefanie Murphy and boyfriend James Thorpe; mother, Jacqueline Graham; two sisters, Wendy Murphy and Melanie Murphy; brother, John Murphy and wife Catherine; several nieces and nephews and his beloved companion, Murf.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Philip’s Greek Orthodox Church, 500 W. Hollis St., Nashua, NH.
