Iris Ortiz Mulligan

Dec 15, 2019

Iris Ortiz Mulligan was the shiniest bright light you ever saw! Her kindness, generosity and loving Spirit endeared her to all who met her right up until the moment she peacefully passed on December 10, 2019.

Born in La Has Puerto Rico, Iris was brought to Washington Heights, New York as a child. She loved living in the city and was a paralegal for 20 years until she stopped working to raise her two extremely delightful daughters.

Iris had a secret that she hid from almost everyone… She only wore purple bras and underpants. She loved having this little secret.

Iris never found out “whodunit” in a murder mystery she watched bc she fell asleep 20 min in, every time.

She had precisely 8 million purses and rarely had what she was looking for in the purse she had with her.

If Iris ever taught you a new word, you might want to validate that. While she loved reading and had an extensive vocabulary, she insisted on making up words and used them so confidently that people thought they were real.

She really loved cheesecake.

If you look up badass in the Urban Dictionary, you will find a picture of one tough cookie named Iris: After the birth of her second daughter, she contracted Encephalitis and became profoundly deaf. She could have given up, but she didn’t. She had a five year old and an infant to take care of. Iris kicked butt at being a mom even though she was learning to deal with her new handicap.

She was the kind of mom that skipped home from school with you and took you out for chocolate egg creams when you had a hard day.

She was snuggly and never missed an opportunity for a hug.

Iris had an infectious laugh. She laughed especially hard when teasing her husband, Tomm, which annoyed him, and that just made her laugh harder. And snort.

Of all the things dementia caused her to lose or forget, she never lost her Joy or loving Spirit. Until her earthly ending, she was able to tell her daughters that she loved them.

Iris joins her husband, Tomm Mulligan, who passed away in his recliner this past July. She is survived by her adventurous daughter Kim Mulligan of L.A. CA and her brilliant daughter Amy Schiripo of Dracut Massachusetts, her husband Alex Schiripo and their two children, Xander and Alana, who brought much happiness to Iris, her loving brother Anthony Ortiz of Nashua, NH, his wife Diana and his children Lisa, Christina and David and their beloved families. She is also survived by her beautiful mother Candida Ortiz of San Juan, PR.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at St Louis de Gonzague Church, 48 W. Hollis Street, Nashua at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 16th. All are welcome to attend. Kindly meet at church.
