Oct 27, 2019

Lorna R Winey (Goosmann) (Johnson), 98, passed away peacefully Oct. 18, 2019.

Lorna was born July 3rd, 1921 to William and Rose Goosmann in Grand Rapids, MI. She was a self- admitted ‘tom-boy’ who loved sports and the outdoors. As a young child she loved ice and roller skating and biking, but eventually she came to love and excel at skiing, tennis and curling. At 12, she was recruited to work in her aunt’s women’s clothing store and by 18 she was traveling to New York as their buyer. She worked there until she married her first love, William (Bill) Winey at age 27. Until the day she died she was known for her exceptional sense of style and class, molded from her years working in the fashion industry. Lorna and Bill followed his job to New England, eventually making Nashua, NH their home for almost 40 years, where they raised their two sons, Gray and David. In 1980, Lorna decided to go back to work full-time. She got her real estate and brokers license and went on to a very successful 2nd career, until she turned 71. After Bill passed, she later was blessed to find love again with a dear friend from her Michigan past, Don Johnson. They married in 1991 and Lorna moved back to Grand Rapids, MI. They traveled the world and had 14 years together before Don passed on. In 2008, Lorna moved to Burnsville, MN to be closer to family. She was always an enthusiastic volunteer for many causes wherever she lived and was known by all of her friends as a hostess to be envied. She will be missed by all of the friends she made in the places she called home.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Winey and Don Johnson and her son, William Graybill ‘Gray’ Winey, her parents, William and Rose Goosmann, and her brothers, George and William Goosmann. She is survived by her son, David (Victoria) Winey, daughter in law, Beth Johnson, and grandchildren, Caitlin, Jennesa and Hunter Winey. She is also survived by her bonus family, daughters, Robyn (Steve) Johnson, Jill (Mike)Norman, grandchildren, Brad (Jessica), Shelley (Ian), Blake (Mia) and Brooke and great-grandchildren, Charlie, Marlo and Cece, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Michigan.
