William J. Leonard III

William J. “Jim” Leonard III, 81, of Nashua, a retired Nashua Firefighter, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

A lifelong resident of this city, Jim was born on June 7, 1938 a son of the late William J. Jr. and Gertrude E. (Heaps) Leonard. Educated in Nashua schools, he served with the Army as a Private First Class from August 23, 1961 to August 17, 1963.

Jim began his career with the Nashua Fire Department in 1968 at the Amherst Street Fire Station and later worked at all of the Nashua Fire Stations until he retired in 1988. He also worked as a driver for Northern Foreign Car Parts, Inc. in Nashua and the Auto Auction of New England in Londonderry for a number of years.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, gardening and camping. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his beloved Beagle “Ricky”.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn J. (Gorman) Leonard, who passed away in November 1994 and his daughter, Kellie A. Leonard, who passed away June 26th of this year.

Members of his family include his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine J. “Cathy” and Derek Bouley of Wilton; three grandchildren, Aleah, Jessie and Taylor; his brother, Richard C. Leonard of Bradenton, FL; his sister, Judith Labrecque of Nashua; his longtime companion, Carol Fluet; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday afternoon, August 11th from 2 to 4 p.m. A Graveside Service will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Nashua Street in Milford, Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Friends are invited to attend and are asked to gather at the cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 00364.
