Ronald W. James

Ronald William James, 81, passed away on Monday, May 21 at his home in Stoddard, NH, with his devoted wife Jan (née Rumrill) by his side. This year will mark their 60th year together.

Ron was the son of William James, Jr. of Nairn, Scotland and Edith James (née Snell) of North Billerica, MA. He was born in Troy, NY but grew up in North Billerica, MA and was a 1954 graduate of Howe High School.

Prior to his move to his retirement home on Highland Lake in the fall of 1993, he and his wife lived in Groton, MA for over 30 years.

He trained as a draftsman through the G.E. Apprentice Program, served in the Air Force Reserves, and earned an A.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute in 1966. From there he went on to a successful 37 year-long career at Sanders Associates/Lockheed-Martin/BAE Systems.

Ron leaves a long legacy of ministry to his local church having served key roles including church leadership, prison ministry, motorcycle ministry, youth ministry, Habitat for Humanity, and most especially men’s ministry at Monadnock Covenant Church in Keene, NH.

Many of his friends and family recall with humor Ron’s can-do spirit. If you were ready to learn to water ski, Ron was an enthusiastic (albeit loud) coach. If your house needed a new roof (or anything else for that matter), Ron was your man. If you were stranded on the side of the road, Ron would be there even on the coldest and darkest night.

In addition to his wife, Jan, he is survived by his son Scott W. James (Martha) and their children: Aletheia, Erin and Andy; Gelene E. Sousa (Glenn) and their children Megan and Aaron; and Nancy J. Gates (Jonathan) and their children Ian (Kim), Christopher (Michelle), Andrew (Rebecca), David, Benjamin and Jennifer. He is predeceased by his beloved and gracious sister Heather E. Brown (Bob) of Chelmsford, MA and his devoted and fun-loving brother-in-law Bill Anderson (Peg) of Concord, NH.

A memorial and celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Monday, May 28th at 11:00AM in the Monadnock Covenant Church, 90 Base Hill Road, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00PM at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation (http://parkinson.org/ways-to-give), 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
