1 resident dead, another injured following house fire

By The Associated Press - | Jan 28, 2022

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — One person has died and another has been injured in a house fire in Massachusetts, officials said Thursday.

Fire and police officials in Tyngsborough say the fire happened around 9 a.m. in a two-story, single family home in the town near the New Hampshire state line.

They say one resident was quickly rescued by an arriving police officer and treated at the scene, but heavy smoke prevented officers from making further entry into the home.

Officials said a second resident was trapped in a second floor bedroom and had to be rescued by firefighters. She was taken to Lowell General Hospital where she later died.

They said the victim’s identity is not being released until her family is notified. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and it’s not clear the extent of the surviving resident’s injuries.

State Police troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office are investigating along with local officials.

Firefighters from surrounding communities, including Nashua, New Hampshire, also assisted in responding to the blaze.
