Charlestown man pleads guilty to trafficking firearms

By The Associated Press - | Jun 19, 2021

BOSTON (AP) — A Charlestown man has pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and dealing in firearms without a license, after selling more than 30 firearms to gang members and others barred from possessing guns.

Charles Barker, 45, entered his plea on Wednesday at the U.S. District Court in Boston, prosecutors said in a statement.

Between 2018 and 2019, Barker bought more than 36 firearms from a third-party gun seller in New Hampshire. He resold them to buyers in Massachusetts, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

Because of Barker’s previous conviction, he was prohibited from possessing and selling firearms.

Last August, he was arrested and charged. He was convicted on photos that showed his possession of multiple firearms that were trafficked, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

Barker’s sentencing will be held on Oct. 26, and he faces up to five years in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.
