SHAPLEIGH, Maine (AP) — A motorcycle crash in southwestern Maine killed a passenger and seriously injured the operator, police said.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Friday in Shapleigh, police said. Operator Olaf Nordmann, 51, of Springvale, was taken to Maine Medical Center for injuries, and passenger Marisa Standly, 27, of Springvale, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they’re still investigating the cause of the crash. They said witnesses reported the motorcycle traveling north and veering off a short shoulder into a group of trees.

Police said they have been working to reconstruct the accident as part of the investigation.
