Vermont Democrats to field historic slate of 2020 House candidates

By Staff | Jul 2, 2020

MONTPELIER, VT — The Vermont Democratic Party is proud to announce that it has recruited a record number of Democratic candidates to run for the Vermont House of Representatives in 2020. More than 150 candidates have filed the necessary paperwork to run for the House, far outpacing the Vermont Republican Party.

The Democratic slate of House candidates includes hard-working Vermonters of different backgrounds and varying life experiences. Included among our first-time candidates are a former college president, a high school social studies teacher, a nonprofit director, an organic farmer, an acupuncturist, a Vermont tourism marketer, and multiple small business owners, to name a few.

“At the beginning of 2019, after the 2018 election saw Democrats pick up 12 seats in the Vermont House and secure the strongest majority since 2012, we set out to field an even stronger slate of Democratic candidates to run for the Vermont House of Representatives,” said Party Chair Terje Anderson. “Because of our recruitment commitment, this year, we’re proud to boast a field of record size and incredible talent.”

House Campaign Director, Spencer Dole added: “I’m proud of the effort we have made so far to field such a strong slate of candidates across the state, but the work has just begun. We can still recruit more candidates to appear on the ballot, and we need to make sure as many Democratic candidates get elected to the House as possible. The 2019-2020 legislative session proved that when Democrats have strong majorities, they can organize to override gubernatorial vetoes — standing up against those who wish to stifle progress in our state.”
