Bridgeport police investigate after 4 shot, 1 fatally

By Staff | Jun 27, 2020

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — One person was killed and three others were wounded in a shooting Thursday night in Bridgeport that police officials attribute to years-long tensions between violent groups.

Two men and two women were shot shortly after 8 p.m. near Huntington Road, the latest in a series of gun incidents in the city including two other fatal shootings earlier this week.

Police on Friday identified the latest homicide victim as 21-year-old city resident Tyler Ballew. The three other victims, who were shot while sitting in a vehicle, are in stable condition at Bridgeport Hospital and are expected to survive, authorities said.

No arrests have been announced.

Police Chief Armando Perez said violent groups that have targeted each other for years were to blame for Thursday’s shooting, the Connecticut Post reported.

Ballew’s death was the city’s ninth homicide of the year. A series of shootings on Monday and Tuesday killed two people and wounded several others.
