CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (AP) — A Maine music teacher has resigned after school officials learned of allegations of sexual misconduct with a student from another school.

The student, who has since graduated, wrote a social media post calling the teacher a “sexual predator” that was later shared with Cape Elizabeth High School officials, WCSH-TV reported.

The former student discusses being groomed by the teacher the age of 14 at Brunswick High School, where he formerly taught.

The teacher was identified as Michael Scarpone. The Associated Press couldn’t find a number for him, and it wasn’t immediately known if he has hired an attorney. He has not been charged with a crime.

Scarpone was immediately placed on administrative leave when the allegations surfaced and he resigned soon after, according to Superintendent Donna Wolfrom.

“We have received no reports that Mr. Scarpone engaged in any inappropriate conduct while he was a teacher at (Cape Elizabeth High School),” Wolfrom wrote in a letter to the community.

There is not currently an investigation by Cape Elizabeth Police, Chief Paul Fenton said.
