St. Baldrick’s Foundation event set

PEPPERELL, Mass. – To raise money for childhood cancer research, the Pepperell Park Street Fire Station will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event from 6-8 p.m. March 11. All participants have to do is get a really, really short haircut (temporarily bald) and have people donate money to sponsor them to do it.

During the past 17 years, organizers at the department have shaved nearly 660 heads to raise more than $289,000.

Hospital receives bond rating upgrade

MANCHESTER — Elliot Hospital, a founding member of SolutionHealth, has received a bond rating upgrade from Moody’s Investors Service. The hospital’s revenue bond rating improved to A3 with a stable outlook from Baa1.

“This upgrade reflects our success in demonstrating sound financial performance and debt service coverage, while managing various service investments and growth strategies without compromising fiscal responsibility,” Elliot Health System Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mike Turilli said.

Moody’s report highlighted the success of several Elliot Hospital services, including trauma and the neonatal intensive care, and planned expansion projects. The report also noted new synergies that are being realized as a result of the hospital’s affiliation with SolutionHealth and associated collaboration with Southern New Hampshire Health.

“To receive an upgraded bond rating affirms that our strategy to invest in key clinical services, enhance our facilities, and pursue collaborations through SolutionHealth is having a positive impact,” health system President Dr. Greg Baxter added. “This strategy will help us to deliver on our goals to continually improve quality of care, expand access, and lower costs.”

Chamber schedules mini golf event

NASHUA – Officials at the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce are ready to shake off the dreariness of February with a fantastic mini golf event at Bishop Guertin High School on March 4.

Teams of four compete to have the lowest score, the most honest score (highest), and the most team spirit, all which come with enviable trophies generously donated by Hudson Trophy Co. The team with the lowest score can choose a chamber nonprofit to receive a portion of the proceeds from the evening. Teams are $125 for four players, while individual tickets are $35 each, prices which include food.

If you are interested in decorating one of the holes, I have attached the sponsorship form as well. They are limited and sell fast. A standard hole is $350 and comes with a team of four or you can sponsor a coveted final hole for $500 with a team of four.

Car seat inspections scheduled

MERRIMACK – Police and fire officials are planning a car seat inspection event for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 14 at Merrimack Fire Rescue Station 1, 432 Daniel Webster Highway.

During this event, certified child passenger safety (CPS) technicians from Merrimack Fire Rescue and Merrimack Police Department will complete inspections of car seats. Properly installed car seats and booster seats provide protection for infants and children in the event of a car crash, yet car crashes are still a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13 years.

Anyone interested in having their car seat inspected can do so by requesting an appointment via email to CarSeats@merrimacknh.gov. The inspection process takes 20-30 minutes per seat. There is no charge for this service.

Woman stabbed to death at Timberland HQ

CONCORD (AP) — A woman who loved the outdoors, cheered on the Yankees and volunteered around the world was stabbed to death at the company headquarters of Timberland where she worked, state officials said.

The attorney general’s office late Tuesday identified the woman as Catherine Heppner, 46, of Exeter.

Robert Pavao, 20, of Berwick, Maine, was arrested and charged Sunday with two counts of second-degree murder. He’s pleaded not guilty.

Authorities said Pavao was a security guard at the business headquarters in Stratham and had worked there for four months. They said he had no relationship to Heppner.

His father declined comment Wednesday.

Authorities decline to comment on a motive and the police affidavit was sealed.
