Local cooling centers open today, perhaps final day of extended heat wave

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Aug 9, 2022

NASHUA — The numerous cooling centers and public pools and splash pads that have helped many residents ward off the effects of extreme heat over the past week will be back open again today on what is hoped to be the last unseasonably hot day for awhile.

Nashua public health officials urged residents, particularly older folks and young children and those with chronic health conditions that are exacerbated by heat and humidity, to keep their cool today by taking advantage of the centers and pools.

Health officials decided to keep the centers and pools open for one more day based on the National Weather Service forecast, which extended the heat advisory for the region through 7 this evening.

Officials remind residents that Nashua Transit will continue providing free transportation to the designated cooling centers.

The centers and their hours include:

* Nashua YMCA, 24 Stadium Drive, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

* Nashua Public Library, 2 Court St., 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

* Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter, 2 Quincy St., 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

* Pheasant Lane Mall, 310 Daniel Webster Highway, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

* Nashua Senior Activity Center, 70 Temple St., 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
