Rotarians from South Africa visit Rotary Club of Nashua

By Staff | Jul 2, 2022

Rotary Club District Governor-Elect Randell Barclay – whose district covers Southern New Hampshire and Vermont – joined the Rotary Club of Nashua on June 20 and brought guest Rotarians visiting from South Africa. Visiting from South Africa’s Rotary District 9350 were District Governor Ian Robertson (Rotary Club of Claremont) and District Foundation Chair Helene Visser (Rotary Club of Blouberg), and from Rotary District 9370, District Governor Maddy Webber (Rotary Club of Grahamstown). District Governor Helene Visser presented the Rotary Club of Nashua with an Award of Recognition for partnering with the Tygerberg Children’s Hospital in a Global Grant to provide a Sonar Bronchoscope Equipment to be used in the disease prevention treatment of children in Cape Town, South Africa. The Rotary Club of Nashua joined along with eight other clubs in Vermont and New Hampshire to provide a local children’s hospital with a pediatric bronchoscope. The project qualified for Rotary Global Grant funding from the Rotary Foundation and received a total of $220,000 to purchase the device. Each year, the bronchoscope is being used on more than 550 babies and children up to age 16, and is credited as a life-saving procedure for many.
