Thank you to our YMCA members who graciously donated nearly 400 pairs of shoes supporting Hollis’s Boy Scouts of America Troop 465. The all-girl troop of 20 collected new and gently worn running shoes, soccer cleats, basketball sneakers, flats, boots, casual and dress shoes, boots and more. There were collection boxes in the lobbies of both YMCA branches during the months of March and April. The shoes collected in this shoe-drive fundraiser are exported to various countries in South America, Central America and Africa. There, the fundraising company works with businesses where they create thousands of jobs for micro-entrepreneurs who resell, repair and re-purpose the shoes as a means of supporting their families.
