TYNGSBOROUGH — A two-alarm fire Thursday morning at a raised-ranch, single family home on Fletcher Drive claimed the life of a woman and injured another person, according to Fire Chief Wes Russell.

The identities of the victims weren’t released as of Thursday evening. Russell, Police Chief Richard Howe, state Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey and the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a joint statement that crews responded to a 911 call for a fire at 24 Fletcher Drive, which is off Frost Road just south of the Hudson town line.

Arriving police officers assisted one person from the residence and firefighters rescued another from heavy smoke conditions in the home.

That person, an adult, was transported from the scene to a local hospital but later died. The person’s identity is not being released pending family notifications, officials said.

The origin and cause of the fire are being jointly investigated by the Tyngsborough fire and police departments, the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police detectives assigned to Ryan’s office. They are assisted by the Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit of the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Firefighters from Nashua, Dunstable and Dracut responded to the scene to assist, while Chelmsford and Westford sent crews to cover Tyngsborough stations.

Lowell General Hospital paramedics, Trinity Ambulance, and the American Red Cross responded to assist.

The Department of Fire Services deployed Rehab 7, a specialized apparatus to support first responders in the bitter cold.
