Child brought to hospital with broken leg; police investigate, arrest child’s father

Manuel Guerrero, 20, of 12 Floral Street, Lawrence, Massachusetts

NASHUA — When a child arrived at a local hospital — police didn’t say which one — suffering from a fractured leg, medical personnel deemed the injury “suspicious” and notified police.

Detectives with the department’s Special Investigations Division looked into the matter, and within hours developed information that identified the child’s father, Manuel Guerrero, 20, of 12 Floral St., Lawrence, Massachusetts, as the suspect in the incident.

Uniformed officers located Guerrero around 6:45 p.m. and took him into custody, police said.

He faces one count of first-degree assault — domestic violence, a Class A felony that, upon conviction, can bring a prison sentence of up to 15 years

Police said the child was later transferred to a Boston hospital for what they described as “more specialized care.”

Guerrero was booked and held on preventive detention pending an appearance in Hillsborough County Superior Court South.

Police ask anyone who may have additional information on the incident call the department’s Crime Line at 589-1665.
