City officials seek input from residents on how to spend federal ARPA funds

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Sep 23, 2021

NASHUA — City residents wishing to weigh in on how to best utilize the $16.1 million in federal American Recovery Program Act funds coming Nashua’s way can do so via a virtual forum from 7-8 this evening, or by attending an in-person meeting next week.

The forums will be hosted by representatives of the city’s Office of Economic Development, who will listen to suggestions and answer questions about the funds, which are being allocated to U.S. cities to mitigate the negative health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The in-person meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, Sept. 29, beginning at 5 p.m.

For details such as the location of the meeting, and information on how to join this evening’s virtual forum, contact Amy DeRoche at 594-3661 or derochea@nashuanh.gov.

According to a spokeswoman for Mayor Jim Donchess, the federal government has certain requirements in place for the use of the funds.

The Board of Aldermen has accepted a draft framework plan for the funds from city leaders, but officials also feel that receiving input from residents is vital in determining how the city can best direct the funds.

“The goal is to develop a plan that will have a meaningful and lasting impact on Nashua,” according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

More information on the draft framework plan that aldermen accepted can be found by watching a YouTube video of the board’s Sept. 8 meeting on Nashua Community TV channel 16.

Additional information about the ARPA is available on the city’s website, www.nashuanh.gov.
